Michael Boyer, CFP®, ChFC®, RICP®, is an investment advisor representative with Retirement Capital Planners. He specializes in retirement income planning and tax-aware strategies, helping people turn what they spent a lifetime saving into income that supports them for the rest of their lives.
Michael works with people in what he calls the retirement red zone, roughly five to seven years before retirement through the first five to seven years after. Many find him through his webinar, How to Escape the Retirement Tax Trap. They usually arrive with the same concern: that they are on track to pay more in taxes over their lifetime than they should.
Every plan starts with education. Michael wants each client to understand what they own, why they own it, and how it works, whether that is a 401(k), a pension, an annuity, or an insurance policy. It is their plan, not his.
Michael spent the first part of his career in software, and he still builds plans like an engineer. He starts by defining the problem, then weighs the strategies that could solve it and maps out what could go wrong, so the plan already has an answer when something does. Only then does he look at products, choosing the ones that fit the strategy rather than building a strategy around a product.
Every RC Planners relationship follows the firm's Carefree Retirement Income Model™ and its Wealth Management Formula: Investment Consulting plus Advanced Planning plus Relationship Management. In practice, that means the portfolio, the tax and estate strategy, and the coordination with each client's CPA, attorney, and other advisors all work from the same plan, with one advisor accountable for the whole picture.
Some of that planning is personal. Michael and his spouse, Ramiro, moved in with Ramiro's parents to care for them in their final years, and later did the same for Michael's father. Those years taught him that family may be able to step in when care is needed, and may not. Either way, every plan he builds includes a clear strategy for what long-term care should look like.
Michael wants every client to leave the planning process feeling the time was well spent, with a sense of calm and security. The plan is built to weather storms, so the headlines do not have to drive their decisions. He has also learned that the numbers are only part of the job. Sometimes the most valuable thing he does is simply be there to talk through what is happening in a client's life.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in computer science, Michael began as a software engineer in Silicon Valley and later became a software project manager in Prague. In 2005 he opened a day spa in Miami, where he kept the books and handled the taxes himself, then took on the same work for other franchise owners. After moving to California in 2013 to be near family, he began teaching financial education and moved into financial services. His work there grew from insurance and annuities into full financial planning, and he ran his own independent firm before joining Retirement Capital Planners in 2024.
Michael holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), and Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP®) designations. He is also a Master Mentor with Circle of Wealth® by MoneyTrax.
Michael and Ramiro recently moved back to Miami, where they spend much of their free time on the pickleball courts, with more bike rides planned.
