Who the firm serves
RC Planners works with career professionals approaching retirement. Most spent twenty or thirty years with one or two large institutions: federal agencies, defense contractors, manufacturers, research organizations, banks, insurers, and health systems. Typical roles include engineering, science, program and project management, operations, corporate finance, benefits, research administration, and clinical work.
Most clients come to the firm within five years of retirement, in either the last five years of work or the first five years after. They usually arrive with layered employer benefits and a set of decisions that can only be made once: a pension election, a survivor option, a lump-sum offer, employer stock, Social Security timing, health coverage until Medicare, and which account to spend first.
Probably not the right fit for someone who
- wants a single product, a stock pick, or a market prediction rather than a plan
- wants investment management only, with no planning
- requires a fee-only adviser that never receives commissions (see fees below)
- prefers not to share the full financial picture a coordinated plan depends on
How the fees work
- Planning starts with one flat fee. It is not a percentage of assets and not an hourly rate.
- The fee reflects the complexity of the household's situation, not the size of the portfolio.
- The exact fee is quoted in writing at the Executive Summary Session, before the client commits. It covers a full year of planning, meetings, and support.
- If a client chooses to have the firm manage investments, that advisory fee is separate and disclosed.
- Any insurance or annuity compensation is disclosed.
How the planning works
Every relationship follows the same six steps, no matter which advisor leads it: a 30-minute Exploratory Call, a Retirement Assessment Review, an Executive Summary Session with the written flat-fee proposal, Mutual Commitment, a Planning and Implementation phase, and Ongoing Alignment meetings one to four times a year. Process and fees, step by step.
Income plans are built on the Carefree Retirement Income Model™, Jeremy Shipp's framework. It starts with an income floor that covers essential expenses from dependable sources such as Social Security and a pension. The rest of the household's savings is organized into time-segmented buckets, so each dollar is invested for when it will be spent. The model is built around seven retirement risks: market risk, taxes, rising healthcare costs, long-term care, inflation, longevity, and premature death.
Planning covers retirement income, taxes (including Roth conversions, withdrawal order, and Medicare premium effects), investments, insurance and health coverage before Medicare, and estate and legacy coordination. The firm works alongside each client's CPA and attorney and coordinates outside specialists when a plan calls for them. Services.
